Community Programs

Project PINS

In 2021, we launched Project PINS (Post-Trauma Intervention and Support) in response to a need for support among individuals experiencing trauma and chaotic substance use. Acupuncture is uniquely positioned to address both the physical and mental aspects of these challenges.

This program offers 10 free treatments, and sometimes more, to individuals referred by community partners, counselors, and other patients. These treatments help regulate the nervous system, heal acute physical injuries, and curb cravings. Since its inception, Project PINS has provided hundreds of free treatments to those in need of trauma-informed care. Our data collection demonstrates significant positive outcomes.

Mobile AcuDetox

The success of Project PINS inspired us to find ways to bring treatment to community members who couldn’t visit the clinic. Thanks to a grant from the Arizona Department of Health Services, we launched the Project PINS Mobile AcuDetox program.

Our Stuck-trained Auricular Acupuncture Technicians (AATs) provide auricular (ear) acupuncture at various community partner locations across Northern Arizona, including the Havasupai Reservation. This 5-point auricular acupuncture protocol effectively regulates the nervous system, reduces withdrawal symptoms and cravings, and supports long-term recovery from substance use disorders.

What people are saying after an AcuDetox Treatment:

"I feel better now. My mind is clear."

"I always feel clearer after a treatment. I am thankful for this kind of treatment."

"Super grounding and refreshing to have this medicine."

"Feelings of happiness and uplifted."

Auricular Acupuncture Technician Training

Arizona law allows non-acupuncturists to be trained in a proven, safe, and gentle 5-point auricular acupuncture protocol (5NP) for treating trauma and substance use disorders under the supervision of a licensed acupuncturist. This training allows individuals to apply for certification as an Auricular Acupuncture Technician (AAT) from the Arizona State Acupuncture Board.

Dr. Nox Chetcuti, a certified AAT trainer through the People's Organization for Community Acupuncture, offers this training at our 4th Street clinic in Flagstaff 3-4 times a year. This training is particularly beneficial for nurses, behavioral health workers, harm reduction workers, psychiatrists, and therapists. If you have questions or are interested in attending this training, please fill out this form to join our waiting list and be notified of upcoming training dates.
